About

I spent ten years as a judge in Romania. This publication is what came after.

I joined the judiciary in 2015 and left it in November 2025.

  • Cluj County Court, Criminal Chamber (2025). Adjudication of criminal cases at first instance and on appeal.
  • Cluj-Napoca District Court (2017–2025). Criminal matters (2020–2023) and civil and commercial matters (2017–2020). Delegated judge responsible for the Section on Cassation Practice and the Unification of Judicial Practice.
  • Buftea District Court (2015–2017). Trainee judge, civil and commercial matters, with delegated responsibility for cassation practice and the unification of judicial practice.

Trained at the National Institute of Magistracy in Bucharest (2013–2015), after a Master in Business Law at Nicolae Titulescu University and a law degree from the University of Bucharest. In 2026, I completed the Decision Making programme at Yale School of Management Executive Education.

Judging teaches a specific discipline. You read everything, including the parts nobody expects you to read. You listen hardest to the side you already disagree with. You write down your reasons, and those reasons have to hold when someone opens the file a year later, looking for the flaw.

That discipline is the subject of everything here.

Diary of a Judge

Notes on how decisions get made and how they fail. Courtroom psychology, the weight of evidence, deciding under uncertainty, and the procedural habits that separate a sound judgment from a lucky one.

Three recurring formats:

The Deliberation. Working through a decision in the open, from first reading to reasons.

From the Bench. What the view looks like from the other side of the courtroom.

Cross-Examination. Pressure-testing an idea until it either holds or breaks.

Arbitration

Following a decade on the bench, I accept appointments as sole arbitrator, co-arbitrator, and president of the arbitral tribunal.

What I bring. Ten years of deciding contested cases under strict procedural safeguards: managing hearings, weighing evidence, ruling on incidents, and writing reasoned decisions built to withstand review. As delegated judge for cassation practice and the unification of judicial practice, I worked at the level where inconsistent reasoning gets identified and corrected.

Subject matter. Commercial disputes, contractual liability and business law.

Seat and languages. Available for proceedings in Romania and abroad. Working languages: Romanian and English (C1).

Disclosures
